Doodles are localized. What you're seeing right now is meant to reach only visitors from the UK, north africa and the middle east:

This makes me wonder why on earth is the UK in the list? Is it now part of the great middle east?

They should have rolled it out globally. Avicenna is an incredibly important historical person and most whites have never heard of the guy because of the myopic tunnel vision of education in europe, the US and Australia

Interesting - the map doesn't show everything. You can go to the country page to see what they actually run.

Iran: virtually nothing there except soccer doodles.

Iraq: celebrates US Veterans Day, but not shown on map.

Uzbekistan: ibn Sina doodle DID run there, but was not shown on map.
