RIP Philo

Margo Kidder and me

There I was, at 15 years old, on the plane flying from Bangkok, Thailand to Frankfurt, Germany in 1985. Our final destination was going to be JFK, NYC.

After 10 years of waiting for the paperwork to complete, my family will reunite for the first time since the end of Vietnam war. I was 5 years old when my father (a member of South Vietnam's Navy) left the country on his ship. I haven't seen my dad for 10 years. He became US citizen and was living in NJ. As the plane left Germany and leveled out at 30K feet,
they turned on the movie on tiny tv screen. I spoke no English and didn't understand a word the people in the movie were saying. However, I understood what is going on. There were bad guys and good guys.

There was Superman flying in the air like magic and the laser coming out of his eyes when he attacks. Then there was this beautiful woman! Superman was her handsome friend but she never realized that he is Superman.

I was in love. I wished I was Superman. I wished I was kissing Lois Lane. I wished I was kissing Margot Kidder!

Reminds me of watching a kid's film with my son.

  'Bridge to Terabithia'

Just a typical kid's film until...

  The main character's teacher was...

      Zooey Deschanel

Little wonder that the kid left his friend to drown while he went off to a museum with Zooey.

She can strum my guitar anytime!

Every boy in that class is totally in love with Zooey:

Why weren't any of my teachers like her?
