Y'all are a bunch of wankers!

Why companies paid Cohen

They thought Trump had no chance of winning, and when they realised their mistake they panicked.

Hey, serious question, what's the cycle time for the scandal of the day (or whatever) stuff you guys squat out on a regular basis? Is it like 2.5 days on average or something? I appreciate all the planning going into this chronic diarrhea spew, it's really impressive. Obviously eventually something will stick, so go for you.

Right complain about people telling you what's going on instead of complaining about the actual scandals themselves.  "Something something drain the swamp whatever.."

AA the key is "actual scandals" of which none of these turend out to be, hence the pathetic need to trot out the next round of fetid crap.

Is this a scandal or just an interesting story about supply and demand & the value of access to the president?

I thought it was interesting. I wanted to know how Cohen managed to out-negotiate Navarta on the contract. This story appears to help answer that.

Ther's no point anyone painting me as a scandal peddler. I simply seek the facts, regardless of where they lead.

Great story. Thanks for posting. In the age of Bored Army, everything has to be evaluated for idealogical purity. It's fucking outrageous and stupid. It's just interesting. No one is posting scandals to try to motivate the 9 readers here to vote for Hillary 2020.

How about this one

> A KAI spokesman said it signed a contract with Essential last year for “legal consulting concerning accounting standards on production costs,” and upon the expiration of the contract it made the payment in November.

Cohen is a heck of a good accountant.

No, most of them are in fact actual scandals but people like you don't seem to care.  Affair with porn star and a pay off...  no big deal right?

Pay to play?  Hell the payers have already admitted to it.  You don't care, do you?

That's a very idealistic view of the universe.

I don't condone any of these goings on. But they are far from uncommon and personally I think it's pointless pretending otherwise. Power corrupts. Which world leader did not bonk every skirt he encountered? Which government did not fraternise with lobby groups?

Obama. Married 25 years
George W. Married 40 years
George HW Married 73 years
Carter. Married 72 years.

That's a very fatalistic view of the universe.

If you don't hold powerful people to any kind of standard then you get corruption.  What's the point in saying everyone does it?  We want people who aren't corrupt.  We can elect people who aren't corrupt.  It's that not that difficult.

But honestly it's not about me being idealistic, it's about you lot just not giving a shit.

Are you sure about that?

I'm sure some people go in with good morals but here they get ground down by the party machines. The US government has been run by the corporates for as long as I can remember. You can't get elected there without big donations, which means you are beholden to your donors. The system is corrupted even before the person is elected. Here too we have big problems with debts owed to donors.

I call my view realistic rather than fatalistic. The corruption will change when all private donations are banned.

You should see our disclosure laws. They are pitiful. Only donations over $10,000 are disclosed, and even then only in a report released 18 months or so after the election. Orwellian use of "disclosure" there.

I don't even agree that most people are corrupt.

Are you stealing from your company?

Most people are not

Baden has an impressive list of Presidents and I agree with it.

ndo dismisses the list as if it is the sole exceptions, but provides no evidence whatsoever.

ndo, please enlighten us regarding Reagan, Ford, Nixon, and Johnson.

I agree Kennedy cheated.

Then continue with Eisenhower, Truman, Roosevelt, Hoover and Wilson.

We can continue after that if you like but please answer for Reagan, Ford, Nixon, Johnson, Eisenhower, Truman, Roosevelt, Hoover and Wilson.

THANKS!

Your closest relationship is with your wife.

If you are cheating on her, it is absolute fact you are cheating on others as well.

This is fact.

To disprove, show extensive counterexamples that are not just exceptions, but show the rule itself.

It's not a question of whether most people are corrupt (they're not) but whether the system promotes the making of corrupted decisions (it does).

I would happily accept that a large fraction of people within the system would prefer different decisions be made. But I bet you they all lament that they have no option but to "work within the system".

This is the reality. Pretending that some other purported reality is the reality will not get the reality changed.

Why does it promote that?

Just think of an occasion where a decision was made that looked like it was made for a donor rather than the voters.

I'm sure you'll have no trouble thinking of one.

ndo you might have a point, but that's why we have checks and balances.  Certainly more kinds of corruption should be illegal but we should at least investigate, prosecute, and punish those who break the law.

Your tacit acceptance of  corruption is part of the problem as public outrage actually does make a difference.

In Bob Baden's world, the vast majority of decisions are made for the benefit of voters and not donors. Just the odd one for donors by the rare bad egg pollie.

I want to live in that world.

You do

You’re just blindly asserting negative things

You claim all politicians chase women, you were definitively proven wrong.

Now you claim all decisions are made for corrupt reasons

Doesn’t seem that way to me
Lots of good stuff happening for good reasons
