Good guys do exist

> Rogue Liberal MP Matthew Mason-Cox has forced his government into releasing the business case for the relocation of the Powerhouse Museum, in a move that could see him suspended from the party room.

In what has been described as an unprecedented step, Mr Mason-Cox crossed the floor of parliament to support a Greens' motion to have the business case released within 14 days.

The NSW government had decided to move the museum before conducting the business case, and then only release a summary of the business case, and only 90 days after it was too late. Zero transparency. They should be sacked.

What is the situation in Australia? I am not aware much what is going on there.

It looks like you guys export too much natural resources to China instead of making stuff there right?

We have abundant natural resources and we export them rather making things and exporting those.

There is a famous book which I've never read but you might find helpful. It's called The Lucky Country. The title is ironic. The author was referring to the Lazy Country.

Australia does lot of business with Vietnam - the country of my birth. I found it funny that some Vietnamese speak English with Australian accent. They should be speaking English with American accent! However, It is understandable due to geography and trade embargo long ago. American businesses were slow to invest in Vietnam.

I have a cousin in Vietnam who went to college and grad school in Singapore but he speaks English with Australian accent.

Can we reinvent the Lucky Country? Fifty years ago author Donald Horne described Australia as ‘a lucky country run by second-rate people’, adding that our leaders are mostly unaware of events that surround them. The good fortune continued when our wide brown land proved to contain bountiful resources of saleable minerals, allowing successive generations of second-rate leaders to create an illusion of economic progress by liquidating those assets. But a crisis is approaching, driven by irresponsible encouragement of population growth rates typical of poor developing countries. In this polemic work, Ian Lowe will assess the state of Australia and whether we can retain our status of the Lucky Country.
