Air strike on Syria in the next 72 hours...
Long enough for the Russians to move anything important out of the way?
I've heard a theory that this is all about some pipeline?
Russia wants to sell natural gas to the european market. The pipeline has to go through Ukraine or Turkey. Ukraine's South Stream pipeline is OUT. So Turkey's TurkStream pipeline it is, and it's currently being built. US and Iran don't want this one.
Iran wants to build Druzhba (Friendship) pipeline through Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, then Europe. US and Russia don't want this one.
US and the Arabs want to build pipeline from Qatar to Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, then Europe. Russia and Syria are against this one. But this is why US wants to kill Assad.
Syria specifically vetoed that last one stating that the reason was because their friend Russia told them no.
That pipeline is VERY important to US allies Qatar and Saudi Arabia, so Assad MUST be deposed by US no matter what, even if US has to gas some people and blame Assad and Russia.
Not a conspiracy theory. The plan to depose Assad to get the pipeline is outlined in a US Army ordered RAND report "Unfolding the Future of the Long War".
RAND explicitly predicted that these shenanigans well benefit the US as part of the US's long term Divide and Conquer war against the middle east, in which it is crucial to exploit sectarian differences between Shia, Sunni, etc, not just theological, but economic as well.
Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan directly told Putin that the US has promised Saudi Arabia that whatever regime comes after the US deposes Assad will be set up to be a puppet of Saudi masters.
