Y'all are a bunch of wankers!

Star Trek Discovery Season 1

Disclosure of bias:

I hate the fucking guts of all the Star Wars bullshit. I've seen it all and am educated on the films, but I see them as racist garbage.

Star Trek though I really like. I particularly like TOS and several of the fan films. But some of the other franchises I thought were generally good, though not always.

So the review.

I didn't like Star Trek Discovery (STD) season 1.

I DID very much love the special effects, the acting, the adherention to authentic Klingon language, and the detailed backgrounds in a couple of episodes, such as the "singing plant" planet, and the visit to Klingon homeworld Cronos.

But overall it fell flat to me. The finale in particular had incredible design but the script and plot were absolute shit.

So this is how the war against the Klingons was won? BULLSHIT. Absolutely bullshit. No Klingon would agree with that absolute crap.

And humans wandering about on Cronos is not a problem at all for Klingons at the height of the war? ORLY now?

The last 10 seconds though was total bullshit. Not even a great cliffhanger.

SPOILERS.

They get a distress call from NCC-1701 ENTERPRISE and have to rescue them. It shows ENTERPRISE, then fades to black, with the original TOS theme then the end credits.

Fuck that.

Didn't we have this conversation before.  Star Trek was ruined because:

- humans have unlimited power in the future

- time travel

So they can only show stories in the "past" relative to the movies and Voyager.

They really need to do a hard reboot.  No more time travel, reduce the power in the future.

I couldn't agree more with RC. This series is too cause and #woke bullshit driven.

The mirror universe is always sort of a quasi fantasy concept. But Discovery bloated the core idea of "evil goateed mirror twin with agonizer" into a bunch of confusing shit just for eye candy and sfx.

The mirror Empire sets and costumes reminded me a whole lot of "The Chronicles of Riddick". Which itself was a ripoff of ancient Roman style.

And the preachy dreck at the end of the last episode. Fucking spare me the "this is just like today" SJW fodder.

This series is the diametric opposite of "fresh and fun". For fresh and fun look to The Orville. Which isn't even that fresh but is fun.

"preachy dreck"

Yeah the last 25 minutes or so was absolutely no action or plot but was instead one grandstanding SJW speech after another, but wasn't even good or inspirational, but was weird as clunky aspie-SJW impersonator dreck. Fucking hell! No no no.

If you want to give some historical progressive speech, great, but make it something like MLK would say, not that. that is some screenwriting that takes thought and reflection, not just spewing out some SJW aspie shit they pulled off a web forum.

Also the idea that all of star fleet suddenly turned into genocidal maniacs willing to kill all non-humans out of desperation and there was not only not a single dissident but motherfucking Sarek himself comes out at the end and says "I must admit that I regret that I enthusiastically went along with the total war genocide plan." Yeah, not only did Sarek NOT do that, but that is a gross and disgusting insult against both Sarek and the Vulcan race.

And your point about "what would Klingons do" was perfectly spot-on.  In real non-transgendered classic Trek They would have fucking doubled down with the war stuff and fighting each other's houses. In this no-balls travesty they get dryly logical and unite over a mere unverified verbal threat by L'rell.

The Klingon fleet massed to obliterate the earth just walks off and calls it a day - RIGHT.

>  "I must admit that I regret that I enthusiastically went along with the total war genocide plan."

Real/good/classic/muscular non-SJW Trek stayed relatively consistent with our prime reality in the mirror universe.

To me the best interpretation of mirror Humans was the Enterprise episodes "In a Mirror, Darkly." Archer was sort of a lesser man in the mirror universe and was motivated by his being tortured by insecurities. The writers in Enterprise depicted mirror humans through a lens of being lesser than their prime universe counterparts are.

This series is more like the humans are just irrationally destructive.

And in old Trek Mirror Vulcans still had honor even if they were complicit in assassinations and naughty business "so we all can move up in rrrrank."

Whereas Sarek in Discovery is a douche in both universes.

I got it.

Discovery is the transgendered Trek.

That says it all.

They should have just given the money they spent on it to Vic from Star Trek Continues.

You do REALIZE do you not that CBS sent a cease and desist letter to Vic and told him they were going to fuck him up the ass and destroy the rest of his life forever if he didn't stop making those episodes, and as a result Vic decided to shut down the whole fucking thing because the CBS asshats who made SJW Discovery had Vic over a fucking barrel, right?

Also, for those that don't know the history.

Both CBS and Paramount have copyright claims over Star Trek material. In particular, these two have signed agreements where both are allowed to develop Star Trek properties, CBS for TV and Paramount for film.

Star Trek fan series got actual permission from Paramount to do their thing as long as they never claimed they owned it or charged for it. They generally debuted their "episodes" at fan festivals on big screens so that they were movies, and thus their permission from Paramount was relevant.

CBS a couple years ago though started developing Star Trek Discovery and didn't like the fan shows. So they sent them all nastygrams.

Paramount still has no problem. And their permission SHOULD still be good, and they have a right to grant it.

But if you are a little guy doing a fan production you know that CBS has defense industry backing and billions they can spend in lawyer fees to bury you simply out of spite.

I have no problem with CBS deciding to do a different take on the Star Trek universe, but imo the writing is bad.

I watched a couple of episodes and quickly came to the conclusion that this show was produced only because CBS desperately needed some more content for their streaming channel.

In the "positive" column, I VERY much like that they decided to keep the BLUE and the GREEN and the PIG people in accordance with TOS and Enterprise, which are the ONE TRUE shows. We all (here I speak for all true Trek fans without apology YKWYA) appreciate that. Of course these scenes amount to about 3.489 seconds total of scenes throughout the entire season, but still.

The little waving antennae on the Andorans from Enterprise were continued in Discovery and that was pretty cool.

Vic Mignogna >>> the SJW asshats writing for Discovery.

> I have no problem with CBS deciding to do a different take on the Star Trek universe, but imo the writing is bad.

I agree with this. If the stories and writing were solid, the stylistic differences would be fine with me. As it is... blearrgh. The huge budget they had for SFX was utterly wasted on garbage for content.

Yep.

And it's a crying shame that disappoints me, but what can you do?

I guess I just have to make do with this big ass silver trophy CBS sent me that says "Worlds Biggest Asshat Racist".

Spoiler: Mirror universe Terran Lorca infiltrated our universe at an unknown point in the past, possibly accompanied by other Terrans (the admiral girl is my bet).

Where the original Starfleet Lorca is is unknown. Presumed dead, but probably isn't dead at all. But we've never met him. Terran Lorca may have killed him shortly after arriving, maybe decades ago.

Yeah SciFi went to shit and the gay-ass SyFy rebranding was just icing on the toilet seat at that point.

They cancelled every cool and intelligent show and replaced it all with flying sharks from outer space and crap like that apparently pandering to the low IQ crowd who never watched their channel to begin with.

So they alienated their core audience. The above article is just them whining further and trying to alienate anyone left who is stupid enough to watch their garbage.

'The CW' seems to be becoming the preeminent producer of quality SciFi these days, though you have to deal with all the teen sex they cram into every show.
