Y'all are a bunch of wankers!

Uber has a gender pay gap

The difference with Uber is we can see why.

Men work harder!

Who knew?

Interesting how the left wing media have chosen not to report on this.

"This lower hourly pay rate is due to several factors including driving speed and experience gaming the app."

So men break the law and cheat and women suffer the consequences.

The men on average drove 2.1% faster than the women.

Women on average earn $20.04 an hour in fees, while men bring in $21.28, a gap of 6%.

The analysis did not take into consideration tips, which are 20% higher on average for women drivers.

Overall, when including tips, woman make more than men at Uber.

However, since tips are voluntary, they can not be taken into consideration for base wage.

The biggest factor was simply that men worked longer hours.

The second biggest factor was that men on average had more experience, this was because women quit working for Uber at a much higher rate than men.

Women took longer to complete a given drive. They report this as men driving faster. ie, more aggressively, right? Because men are violent.

But in reality although the average speed per trip was higher for men, the average speed while traveling was the same for women. Women took longer because they took longer on to load luggage as well as social tasks such as greeting the customer, find out their destination, give them advice, chat and flirt - all which were contributors to their 20% higher tips and thus higher overall pay when including tips. Women also avoided political and religious topics that men drivers bring up, which are likely to alienate the customer and lead to lower tips.

So the women were optimizing for something different, and it worked out, their overall compensation was higher.

This is like how smart women now prefer to become doctors and lawyers paying $500k-$2.5M, and not programmers maykng $80k.

Hey RC, do you have a link for the tip information?

That's not how MS rolls though. His standard pattern is to open with:

"Pretty pathetic but funny to see all you losers here talking about this given that none of you have ever slept with a woman and you are all living alone. Unlike me, MS, who has orgies with child prostitutes each weekend because I am a hot guy who respects women."

Sure, take a look at the original paper. It shows the formula they use to calculate "effective hourly earnings", it's 3.1 on page 9.

It includes base fare, per mile rate, per minute rate, surge multiplier, distance to pickup, distance of trip, average speed, wait time for dispatch, and incentive earnings. The incentive earnings are described on page 8 and are incentives from Uber for things such as completing a minimum number of trips a week. It doesn't include tips, and the footnote on page 7-8 specifically says that tips are not included in the analysis because they "believe tips had not material impact on earnings".

So tips are verified as out of the analysis, with them claiming a "belief" that tips would not change the results. Tips are then not mentioned anywhere else in the paper.

But in the Mashable article the journalist asks the paper authors about tipping and they, the same authors that say in a footnote they are not including tips because they "believe" they have no "material impact", admit that women make 20% more on tips than men.

In other words, the study authors intentionally sabotaged their own paper with an intentionally false footnote in order to give the paper the opposite conclusion from the actual facts they knew. But one journalist thought to ask the relevant question which blew the whole thing out of the water. However that journalist did little follow through other than to mention the huge difference in tips.

The study looked at Uber data before tipping was offered in the app.

The Mashable article that mentions the 20% difference is the one by Sasha Lekach.

I just realized Mashable also has a second article by Diamond of Stanford, Hall and Cook of Uber on their study. That one doesn't mention the tips at all.

People have been paying tips to Uber riders since the service was founded and it's a significant part of income for many drivers.

Last year tipping was added to the app itself. You are trying to argue there was no tipping before then. That is utterly false.

ALSO, the fucking paper itself mentions that the drivers get tips. So arguing they didn't is impossible to do from a factual standpoint.

The paper though says that they "believe" the difference in tips between men and women isn't material so therefore will be left out of the analysis.

When later confronted, they admitted women get 20% more.

The paper is trash. They talk about it on the Freakonomics podcast (also heard it on NPR, among other places). The notion that they can broadly smear this on the entirety of the world is hilariously stupid.

One of the reasons women made less was that they don't drive as many of the more dangerous hours (e.g. club nights, etc.), obviously given rapey rapey culture and all of that. The authors then broadly pretend that this is perfectly and absolutely offset by women working Sunday mornings which is somehow identically as lucrative as drunk overtippers.

The way they talk about their "study" is outright hilarious, too. SELECT AVG(earnings) FROM trips GROUP BY sex

HOLY SHIT MOTHERFUCKER YER A DATA SCIENTIST!

They did? They literally claim that they revealed the gender pay gap. They aren't saying "On Uber men make slightly more", they are claiming this explains the entire phenomena across all industries. It's fucking stupid.

The root causes are the same.

On average and especially at the higher levels:

Men work harder
Men have more experience
Men expose themselves to higher risks
Men are more competitive

Still no luck with the ladies eh fellas?

Keep obsessing over slight recognition of inequality and insisting it's actually the men who are the victims. I'm sure you'll meet the right girl one day.

Be such a shame when she fucks off and leaves him.
