Priest found guilty of 'spiritual abuse'

"an online survey found that two-thirds of 1,591 respondents said they had personally experienced spiritual abuse"

Two-thirds, huh? Calling bullshit right now. It's going to be like that study that found 93% of gay women and 77% of all -straight women have been "violently sexually assaulted", and after hours of tracking shit down we find that if they answered yes to "Has anyone ever wolf whistled at you on the street?" or "Has anyone ever looked at you in public in a way that made you feel uncomfortable?", then they have been sexually assaulted.

> spiritual abuse includes any of the following: coercion and control, manipulation and pressuring, control through the [mis]use of religious texts and scripture, and providing a divine rationale for any behavior

I guess the 1/3 that hasn't run into someone [mis]using religious texts or providing divine rationales for things have been in a coma or living in a cave.

I'm sure that when religious figures make remarks (to victims of abuse) like "God let this happen for a reason" - that would count as spiritual abuse. As well as all those "pray away the gay" torture centers.
