Should churches get FEMA money?

His remark came after three Texas churches — the Harvest Family Church, the Hi-Way Tabernacle and the Rockport First Assembly of God — filed a lawsuit challenging a FEMA policy that excludes churches from receiving recovery money from the agency.

Supreme Court has covered this already.

If you have a law making a program available to various organizations, but ban people from participation based on their religion, that is an unconstitutional law.

You can not favor based on religion, nor discriminate against it.

Regarding your quote from this article:

FEMA should not exist. It should be disbanded. It currently is a taxpayer rape program where people are encouraged not to buy insurance, knowing they can whine and FEMA will bail them out. I am completely opposed to this.

FEMA should offer no funds to anyone.

OK, so in this specific case this is a program to rebuild buildings that are used for providing "essential government services". The churches are arguing that they provide "essential government services". That is a bullshit argument.

Churches don't pay federal taxes, which fund FEMA. So why should churches get any money from FEMA?

That's a point.  I guess their parishioners will have to kick in more money to rebuild the church.

Too bad they weren't kicking in money for the flood insurance already.

I would love to see churches being taxed.

All "non-profits" should be taxed. Everyone pays their share.

Why would the parishioners kick in more money?  Shouldn't the Deity of choice do the heavy lifting?

Yes, but the Deity of choice does his work through His People.

Deities are historically short of cash.

Huh, and spell-check saved me -- I was SURE "Deity" had the i-before-e thing.  Apparently not.

> I was SURE "Deity" had the i-before-e thing.

The 'ei' in Deity is not a double vowel, but just two vowels, so that rule doesn't apply.

The root is 'de*' like in de-us (deus). (Related to 'the-ology').

So it is simply de-ity.

The rules for 'ei' versus 'ei' are about the compound vowels.
