Stanley is not wrong. I feel sorry that he needs to apply for this internship. I have done all kind of UNIX, XENIS, LINUX, BSD, MINIX, Solaris, System V, POSIX or not and so on. I don't advise people going into programming field anymore. They should go into finance/investment.

No one would question whether if your experience in stocks trading will not make you a good worker in mutual fund industry. FINRA series exam is all you need.

He sounds like an autist. Saying "POSIX" instead of Linux looks completely fucking stupid.

Problem #1 - They guy was inexperienced and didn't realize that HR is frequently staffed by idiots.  He should have edited his resume to add "Linux", and the HR person would have been satisfied.

Problem #2 - The HR person was an idiot.

Problem #3 - Whoever was managing the HR was also an idiot.  It is common for well-managed recruiters to know synonyms for common terms.  I.e., "T-SQL", and "Microsoft SQL Server" mean the same thing.

The guy sends a resume with Linux on it.

The recruiter writes "We're looking for experience working on Linux and Unix."

Recruiter is WildRiver level dumb

To me the worst of it is he apologises for his responses, this is typical beta engineer roll over and die crap. He should be attacking the stupidity of this in no uncertain terms.

I've been in Stanley's situation far too many times. As have we all I'm pretty sure.

HR and recruiters are so fucking brain dead stupid imbeciles.

I see a comment about betas and disagree. Stanley's alpha move was posting the emails to the internet to publicly shame the moron and his retarded company. Public ridicule and mockery is a FAR more effective strategy here than arguing with a retard as was suggested. Arguing with a retard is dumb. Letting everyone in the world know he's a retard is smart.

>> HR and recruiters are so fucking brain dead stupid imbeciles.

Better said most of them are barely functional Touring machines.

>> Arguing with a retard is dumb.

Yes, arguing with an AI which hasn't reached "general intelligence" level doesn't reflect well on anyone.

>> Letting everyone in the world know he's a retard is smart.

They're both retards and he just let everyone in the world know that.

Hey folks, I'm the student writing the emails in the post here. Thanks to everyone for their criticisms. While I was initially kind of shocked by the recruiter's response, I've had a lot of time to think about it today and have realized that I was being pretty damn condescending and spoke out of line without regards to the context. It's been a hard lesson learned. I honestly regret the whole exchange, and posting it online was inappropriate as well. I briefly debated deleting the image, but decided to leave it up for sake of posterity and accountability.

Also, just to be clear, I do not (and never did) hold any hard feelings towards the recruiter; in fact, it was very kind of them to point out why I was not qualified in the first place. This has been probably the most reflective of how I let my ego get the best of me at times, and I hope it might serve as a warning to those who might be tempted to do the same "devsplaining" in similar situations.

Please let me know if you have any other criticisms beyond the ones already voiced in this thread. I'm reading through the comments here as I can, and it's been a lot of good advice. Thanks again.
