The unbearable stupidity of the crew made it impossible to watch to the end.
Like, you made a point, several times, to let us know all the crew are married. And you kill off spouses one by one consistent with the trope of the genre. Why not spend some character development time exploring how the different members react to that? Maybe make loss and grief a theme?
Naw let's just make David weird and not even do call backs to Ash in a way that would make sense given the that David is trying to create a perfect organism and Ash admired the purity of it.
Also every else just runs around being really stupid.
Well then you must go see the latest movie in the Resident Evil franchise. Took me some 10 minutes into it to accept this is not a parody but the actual movie. Then left.
David's homicides are the result of his believing that humans are too stupid to inherit the cosmos.
The crew of this ship and the one in Prometheus bear that out.

Man I forgot about the spouse thing, or how ham-fisted that whole element was.
I grabbed the movie just because I figured it was big budget and worth a watch. Couldn't believe that it scored higher than 2 on reviews. One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time.
And the aliens by and large looked like garbage. The practical effects for decades ago were more successful.
Note: I am not defending this movie. I thought it had way too many plot holes.
>And the aliens by and large looked like garbage. The practical effects for decades ago were more successful.
The Aliens from earlier movies were suppose to be "well defined" final products (i.e. the perfect organism).
The android named David did explain to the captain of the ship that during his time on the planet he had been doing a lot of genetic experimentation with the pathogen/virus. Also, right before an egg/pod opens and the captain stupidly takes a peek inside, David did mention that his work had been frustrated by an essential ingredient.
>David's homicides are the result of his believing that humans are too stupid to inherit the cosmos.
I would have used the word "imperfect".
What David actually said to the other android was this: "They are a dying species grasping for resurrection. They don't deserve to start again and I am not going to let them.... I have found perfection here, I have created it."
