I keep hearing about this Geocities thing. Maybe some day I will try it.

Getting blamed for something outside my control

Some girl from another department who uses one of my applications e-mailed me saying that some files which are used in this application) were deleted.

The only people who have access to add/remove these files other than IT is her and her sidekick.

This is the second time in a few months she has complained about this.  They cleaned up the folder and now files are being mysteriously deleted again.

I look like an idiot for not knowing what's going on.  This is the only folder to my knowledge that his has happened.  I personally thing that they are either mistakenly deleting the files or someone is doing it on purpose.  Is there any other possibility?

I am running a program that is supposed to track when files are deleted but I don't think it tells you who.  Does anyone know if such a program exists?  I tried turning auditing on in Windows Server but it wouldn't work.

Perhaps a virus scanner is mistakenly identifying your files as having a virus?

Perhaps a virus IS actually infecting your files?

Where in the file system IS this directory?  What is it named?  Are their spaces in the file-names?  Spaces in the directory names?

You didn't put it in Windows/System, by any chance?

Thanks Pie!  The best course of action does seem to be to build a small app to track these changes.  Maybe even go as far as send e-mail notifications when files are deleted and WHO deletes them.  I'm tired of fucking around.  I'm willing to bet either her or her sidekick is mistakenly deleting the files.  There is also the possibility that someone is deleting them on purpose (maybe they don't want to maintain this file list) but doubt it.

It's a possibility I guess.  They load these files from a camera.  I believe our anti-virus software would have flagged it and notified us however.

It's in one of the folders on the web server under Inetpub/wwwroot.  There are no spaces but there are dashes.

Yeah, the timing of that comment was absolutely impeccable.

Third-stooge pecking order of quality from best to worst:

The two other guys were in their shorts and movies in the late 50s and early 60s. For example, Joe DeRita was in "The three stooges in Orbit."
