Mean, sick, and poor is no way to go through life, son.

Video from Times Square "accident"

An accident. Not terrorism, say police after evaluating the tapes.

Now the tapes are out.

That still doesn't prove whether:

1. He did it on purpose.

or

2. He was so stoned or crazy that he had no idea what was going on.

It was not Islamic terrorism.  It was an ex-soldier who came back with a bad mental illness.

However, it was a well-planned route (if it wasn't an accident).  Lots of office buildings have those anti-truck-bomb posts around them.  Apparently 7th avenue between 42nd and 45th street doesn't have any of those anti-car barriers.

Seems weird for him to be totally out of touch with reality ... but also be able to drive to Times Square and find the optimal route to cause maximum damage.

It is disturbing video, reminiscent of recent vehicle attacks that were terrorism-related. However, in this case, it doesn't seem that the motive was political.

I am sure the video shows he did it on purpose.

Did you watch all the videos from the different angles?

How could you argue it was not on purpose?

Drugs and alcohol (apparently) Deliberate. Likely inspired by other events. Not "Islamic terrorism".

He probably wasn't "totally out of touch with reality". You probably don't know how it as planned (maybe, he developed the plan before the drugs/whatever).

How does the video prove it was on purpose?  It shows lots of camera angles, but doesn't show the driver's face or expression.

Most people would hit the brakes when they realized something was wrong.  But we already established

It could be, for example, he thought he was making a right and going down Broadway.  Broadway does have intersections where the "illegal" turn he made makes sense.

We already established he was nuts.  So the video doesn't prove if he did it on purpose, or was just so out of it he thought it was a legal turn.

Although the video does make it look like he was aiming for the largest group of people, or the people who were slow to dodge.

Not sure if you are replying to my comment.

If one is familiar with the area, one doesn't need the video to "prove" it.

He drove multiple blocks through a pedestrian zone.

It wasn't likely he was so "out of it" to have no idea because he managed to get there.

Such things happen. A similar accident happened in Poland in 2014: http://www.polskieradio.pl/5/3/Artykul/1195087,Wjechal-w-tlum-na-molo-w-Sopocie-Prokuratura-byl-niepoczytalny

The prosecutor ruled that the perpetrator had been "insane" and attributed his behaviour to mental illness. They shut him for some time in a mental hospital.

Does it matter if you kill someone on purpose, or due to your own gross incompetence?  Either way, the people are still dead/injured.

The only two outcomes for the guy is:

- He spends 20+ years in prison.

or

- He spends 20+ years in a mental hospital/prison.

The 2nd one is better for him, if he's really mentally ill.

If he's geninely me tally ill, he could potentially be completely cured by the right meds.

However, he would then have to live with the knowledge of what he's done.

If he was in North Dakota, this would be OK, they passed a law there saying it was OK for motorists to run over protestors.

He probably just thought they were protestors.
