I keep hearing about this internet thing. Maybe some day I will try it.

The decline of programming user groups! What happened? I don't

see many groups like in the past. Back in the 90s, you have Linux, FreeBSD, C++, and many other users/programmers groups where they have monthly meeting.  This kind of activities are dying out. When C#/.NET framework first came out, we got a bunch of them. Now there isn't much.

Hmmm, they all move to meetups...I guess they don't have their own web sites anymore.

I've seen a few that are outside Meetup, but yeah they are dying out...

Back in the day, the LAJUG list was extremely active. Not sure if there are any UG mailing lists much these days.

I'm not social enough to have ever really wanted to attend user's groups, but I checked a few out in the 1990s.

Generally super lame and/or boring.

If I make a point to drive somewhere to attend something where I have to be social, I want to be entertained.

Yeah, many of them were geeky and boring but I didn't mind the free pop and pizza! lol

Plus for me it was Cincinnati which puts multiple strikes against anything IT being good or interesting.

"Generally super lame and/or boring. "

Yeah. My outside interests are in things other than IT. Lately I've been going to REI meetups. Going to a meetup to talk about some new tech that I could read about online is just boring.

Plus it's always a bunch of programmer-nerds so of course there is very little actual social interaction and what little there is is super-awkward.
