I keep hearing about this internet thing. Maybe some day I will try it.

Rational analysis for a change

Nice to see some unemotional discussion instead of the usual melodrama.

> [Former CIA deputy director Michael Morell] described Mr Trump's foreign policy mindset as: "If there is a direct threat to the US we will deal with it, other than that we should withdraw from the world and take care of our own problems."

> He said Mr Trump was pulled between two poles, that of the traditional US national security establishment which saw Russia as an adversary; and the competing influence of Mr Trump's arch right wing adviser Steve Bannon, who saw Islam and China as the main enemy and Russia as a potential ally.

I agree with Bannon on this point with the caveat that you know you can't fully trust Russia, so be wary, but at least you can distrust them less than China and extremist Muslims.

If we "withdraw from the world", how will we know when there's a threat to America or not?

But if we preemptively attack based on bizarre, non-fact based lunatic opinions, we'll turn everything into a threat to America.

I think we need a balance -- which the Trump administration seems unable to achieve so far.  Then again, it's only been about 4 weeks since his inauguration.  But the ousting of Flynn, and the installation of Bannon in the NSC, does not bode well.

That is an example of the melodrama I am talking about. Clearly, US intelligence and military will continue to monitor everything, and they will know about potential threats. Please grow up.

Being a grown up is participating in the world. Children hide from danger. Adults meet danger. They don't let other people handle it. That's the only way to influence and control the future. Not by running away. So grow the fuck up and be an adult.

LOL, let see...we helped Russia in ww2. We paid for Marshall plan to rebuild Europe. We rebuilt Japan. We helped China to be liberated from Japan. We protect South Korea....blah blah blah.

Can we have some help from the world please?

Basically it seems trumpism is a return to infantilism, a childhood state where someone else takes care of you. What pussies. Scared of terrorism. Scared of leading. Scared of science. Scared of challenges. Scared of reality. Scared of their shadow.

By leading the free world the US gets more control over the world than any other nation. It's truly sad the US is no longer worthy of that role. US leaders now are so much less than they used to be.

"Withdraw from the world" are Morell's words, not Trump's. I wasn't endorsing that view, I was calling out Hubble on melodrama.

My interpretation of Trump's policy, rightly or wronlgy, is that he wants to spend less time poking his nose into other people's business. This is a policy I heartily endorse :)

I agree. I advocate the Supersize Me plan. Let invade all countries tomorrow. We will build 1,000 years of America Empire!

We will take care of the world but they will submit to us. No more democracies talk. You won't have a leader. You will have a governor approved by us.

You want America to take care of you? Then shut the fuck up when we do something. Don't ask for a hand-out and at the same time disobeying us! There will be none of that!

We will fire bomb, carpet bomb, and nuclear bomb the whole goddam Middle East for a start. Next we will take care of China, Russia, and Germany.

Russia has always been expansionist. When Russia moves into Europe what kind of economy do you think the US will have?  When you hide and let the bullies take over the world you get fucked. That's what you are advocating for.

That's a child's view of what taking responsibility means. That's not what an adult thinks.

"you can't fully trust Russia"

Russia has always been a trustworthy friend and ally of the US. They let us help in their defeat of the Nazis and didn't complain too much when we pretended to take credit for it ourselves.

Who can't be trusted is bankers, Wall-Street, Big Pharma, Global Corporatism, the World Bank, and the Eurocrats.

That's how parents of controlled their children since the beginning of time. Are trumpbots incapable of strategy outside of perfecting the southern strategy to get elected?

We have always been at war with EastAsia. We've turned duckspeak into an everyday thing.

What's wrong with being friends with Russia?  If it's US and Russia vs. ISIS, I don't like ISIS's chances.
